    Abstract:

Polycomb (PcG) and trithorax (trxG) are two groups of conservedepigenetic complexes that maintain active and repressive statesof target genes by altering their chromatin states to regulate plantdevelopment and stress responses. In the conventional view,PcG and trxG proteins often function antagonistically in transcriptionalgene regulation, based on the observation that mutations intrxG and PcG genes can counteract each other’s activity, whereas mutations of genes within each group have synergisticeffects (Pu and Sung, 2015). Despite this general tendency, a

growing body of evidence suggests that there is no overallsynergism or antagonism between and within the trxG andPcG proteins. Instead, there is a nuanced and intricatesynergistic interaction, establishing a mutual regulatoryrelationship between PcG and trxG.
